I got the greatest news! It is super bittersweet because I wish I was here to hear it, but rumor has it that Michael said MOMMA this weekend. Fingers crossed that he will say it again so I can hear or just start chatting. :-) This gives me some much needed hope!
So todays blog is going to be focused on him coming home because it should be happening very soon. We were suppose to go home tomorrow but they are keeping us a little longer to continue to monitor some health issues. They are still messing around with his medicines to help him be as comfortable as possible without making him sleepy all the time. Can't get much progress if he wants to sleep all day! However with our appointment on Monday with the neurosurgeon they want to still get us out of here by the end of the week so we don't have to reschedule that.
I know that there are people that are going to want to visit us, and that is fine...just want to make sure that he doesn't have any appointments on the days you want to visit.
But I did want to take a minute to explain his mental and physical state a little bit. He has a lot of friends that want to see him. I am not sure whether that will be good or bad for the kids. I know that they are worried and want to make sure he is okay, and like I said, I am fine with that. I just want you, as the parents, to prepare them for what they are going to see. We, as adults, can understand that he is making progress and one day he may very well return to being "Michael" again. But as a kid, I am not sure if they will be able to get past what they see. He is very skinny now, he has lost about 12-15 pounds. He was already very small. His head is caved in because he is still missing his skull. So you can see the part of his forehead that is still there, and than see where it has been removed. He really just stares, sometimes he will make eye contact and sometimes he will not. So when you talk to him, if he is not looking at you it may seem like he can't hear you.....but he can. He can not control his head, so it flops around if you try to sit him up. He can not talk, even though he did say Momma this weekend, he has not spoken again. His body stiffens up. And a lot of times his head will turn to the left and that is out of his control. He sweats a lot on his face when he is stressed out. He "chews" a lot, even though there is nothing in his mouth. He also has a scar on his head where they did the surgery which is very visible.
So I do not want to scare anyone off of visiting or letting their kids visit, I just want them to be prepared for what they are going to see. He is not going to sit up and chit chat with them, or smile at them, but it might be good for him to see some friends and hear some friends.
I know that there are so many kids that are worried about him. I know that he had a handful of very very close friends. My heart breaks for these kids. I can not imagine what they think. But I do know that they love Mike, they are rooting for him and they want to know that he is okay!
Heres to you guys!
So much love for this kid!!!!!
On a side note:
He got to ride a bike on Thursday. He was heavily strapped in and his feet and hand were tied to the bike. We pushed him for 15 minutes. So just his body being able to bend and go with the motion of the bike is great! It wore him out and he went to sleep in his chair shortly after :-)
Again thank you all for your prayers! Thank you for keeping Michael and our family in your thoughts!
