Lets start off with this double image of Michael. I did this for homework a few years ago. He loves to dress up, he loves scary stuff, and while he isn't a fan of helping with my homework, he did a great job this time! My assignment was to use the same person at least twice in the same image. So in honor of Halloween coming up, I figured I would share a spooky picture!
Since I haven't blogged anything since Thursday night I have to tell you how awful Friday was for us! There is nothing worse than a Mother watching her child hurt and know there is nothing you can do about it. Rehab is that times 100. However Friday was that times a million. We were in speech therapy and she taught me how to pry Michaels mouth open because he fights to open it up. So I learned that pretty successfully. Then we added a rubbery bite guard that would help keep his mouth open so we could brush his teeth really good. Well as I was trying to move it from one side to the other side, he sucked his lip in and it got underneath the bite guard.....and he was biting down. It was bleeding....I was having a freaking panic attack because he was still biting down, He couldn't help it. He even had a tear! But they said the fact that he had a tear is really good. It shows that he is still in there and he can react to pain......reaction is what we want! Anyways, this is him after the fact.
Freaking sad, right?!?!?! Of course after that he still had to go on with the other therapies. Here are some pictures from that. I will just say by the end of the day he was tuckered out!
So then I left for the weekend to go see everyone else. I of course went the long way home, wont make that mistake again! But I finally got home and had a busy but restful weekend with the other kids. They needed it, I needed it, Tim needed it!
So needless to say Michael needed rest this weekend. Friday night was bad for him and he ended up getting morphine, which he hasnt had since he has been in rehab. But I suppose it was much needed that night. The rest of his weekend was pretty uneventful. And when I got here this evening I was so excited to see him wide eyed!
He seems like a totally different kid today than what I left him as on Friday. I am very excited to see what this week brings for him.
If anyone wants to know what specifically you can pray for pray for these things, start communicating, whether it be talking, nodding, thumbs up. Pray for him to relax and not stiffen up. Pray for him to become more and more aware of his surroundings, pray for him to start reacting to things, noises, feelings. Pray for him to be comfortable and painless. Pray for his muscles to strengthen. Pray for comfort in his mind, he may not know what is going on and may be scared.
Love you guys!

Then he started his morning and nighttime breathing treatments to help break anything up in there that he can't break up himself.

Thank you for the update and the specifics for prayers. God knows what is needed but I like to ask for specific things and not just a lot of general vague things. He does look a bit more wide eyed and alert maybe even a bit like he recognizes you and has so much to communicate to you. Maybe it is just something I want to see and am praying to see, but those last two pictures seem somehow very different to me. It is in his eye I think. How long did you say he has until his next evaluation? All my prayers for Michael and the rest of you all.
ReplyDeleteI have written your specific prayers in my journal and will continue to pray. Feel free to add anything no matter how seemingly small. Every little thing is so huge for him now. I am sorry for his fat lip but I am happy for his tear. How hard that must have been for you. You are a brave mom and you can do this. He is a strong determined boy. I believe I see it in his eyes. I think he was glad to see you. It will be a hard exhausting week but I am praying for you too. Everyday is a step closer. Much love and prayers.
